Employment
Yes, Detroit is all about automobiles, but less so today than even 20 years ago. However, it remains an industrial giant churning out auto-related equipment, paints, machinery, pharmaceuticals, rubber products and synthetic resins.
The new game in town, though, literally is a bunch of many new games: blackjack, Texas Hold ‘Em, craps, etc. Detroit has a growing downtown casino trade that, while it won’t rival Las Vegas anytime soon, it is creating much needed jobs and revenues.
Making a bold statement with a massive headquarters smack in the middle of downtown, Internet player Compuserve brought 3,000 employees to the heart of the city.
Like many metro areas, Detroit also has a solid health care segment. Henry Ford Hospital remains one of the leading health care centers in the Midwest.
